Seventh Annual Square Foot Art Show and Sale

August 1 to December 31, 2020

Although the Grand Manan Art Gallery will be closed for the 2020 season because of health concerns relating to Covid-19, we will be creating an online gallery for our 7th Annual Square Foot Show and Sale. By visiting our website, viewers will be able to enjoy a spectacular variety of work, and have the opportunity to purchase great art at very reasonable prices.

The object of this popular show is to pack as much punch as possible into one square foot of space. The images above illustrate how three of our 2019 artists rose to this challenge.

We will welcome a variety of artwork (paintings, drawings, photographs, fiber art, ceramics, wood, etc.), but remember, the outside dimensions of your piece must measure 12 inches by 12 inches. If you would like to participate in this show, consult the Guidelines below, and submit images of your work to our Exhibition Committee in care of David Ogilvie (dmogilvie@sympatico.ca). We will be posting this show on August 1, and we will need to receive your submission no later than July 15. The exhibition will run until December 31, 2020

Complete the Entry Form (click here), then scan or photograph it and email it to David, or mail a hard copy to him at 10 Marathon Lane, Grand Manan, NB E5G3A3.

You will be responsible for pricing your work, and as a way to support artists during these challenging times, the Gallery will not be charging a commission on sales.

You may submit up to four works for one Entry Fee of $25, preferably payable by E-transfer to the Gallery (gmag2121@gmail.com), or by cheque made payable to the Gallery, and mailed to the Treasurer, Grand Manan Art Gallery, 10 Marathon Lane, Grand Manan, NB, E5G 3A3. In addition, please provide a copy of your Bio, and your photo (optional) for the Meet the Artists section of our website.

Take the photo with the best camera you have (most phone cameras are fine these days). Move in close and to eliminate as much of the extraneous background as possible, but show details of the frame and/or mat if the piece is framed.

If possible, photograph your artwork under natural light taking care to avoid shadows if the piece is framed. Also, avoid reflections if the artwork is under glass. You can usually eliminate reflections by placing the framed piece flat on the floor in a location that is illuminated by indirect sunlight. If this does not work, you will have to photograph the work without the glass covering.

All submitted images must be in jpg format only. If possible, image files should have a resolution of 150 ppi, and the height of the image should be at least 1000 pixels. If you are not able to determine the resolution and height of your image, send it to us anyway, and we will make the necessary adjustments, or ask you to provide another image.

Your image files must be named using the following convention: Name, Title, Medium, and Price, for example Ina Painter, My Painting, Acrylic on canvas, $225.jpg.
